Strong attendance is fundamental to every child’s learning, wellbeing, and long‑term success. At Canary Wharf Primary Glenworth, we set high expectations for attendance and punctuality because every lesson matters: consistent presence in school builds knowledge step by step, nurtures positive routines, and helps children thrive socially and academically.
We partner closely with families to remove barriers, offer timely support, and celebrate success so that all pupils can attend every day, on time.
How we promote and celebrate excellent attendance:
- Weekly recognition: In assemblies, we highlight the highest‑attending year groups and celebrate them again in our newsletter, reinforcing a whole‑school culture of reliability and pride.
- Half‑term certificates: At the end of every half term, pupils with 100% attendance receive a certificate recognising their outstanding commitment to school.
- Termly badges: Children can earn a Bronze badge for a full term of 100% attendance (Autumn), a Silver badge for two terms, and a Gold badge for three terms. These milestones reward sustained effort across the year.
- Proactive monitoring and support: We review attendance weekly to identify patterns early and offer appropriate help. Where needed, we work with families to provide practical support and Early Help interventions, ensuring challenges are addressed swiftly and sensitively.
Our approach blends clear expectations with constructive support. By celebrating consistency, identifying concerns early, and working in partnership with parents and carers, we sustain attendance that sits above national levels and, most importantly, secures the best outcomes for our pupils.
Our Attendance Policy is available on our Policies page.
Reporting absence
If your child is unable to attend school, parents and carers must:
- inform the school office on the first day of absence and complete form
- provide a clear reason for the absence
- ensure medical appointments are made outside school hours wherever possible
- complete a leave of absence request form for any planned absence during term time
Unexplained absences will be followed up promptly in line with our Attendance Policy.
Why attendance matters
Regular attendance is fundamental to children’s achievement, wellbeing and future success. When pupils attend school consistently, they:
- make stronger progress across the curriculum
- develop confidence and positive relationships
- build secure routines and excellent learning habits
- feel included, settled and part of the school community
We are committed to working in partnership with families to ensure every child attends regularly and benefits fully from their education.
Our expectations
We expect all pupils to:
- attend school every day
- arrive on time and ready to learn
- arrive between 8:15am and 8:30am for a calm and positive start to the day
- understand that punctuality is an important part of school life
Parents and carers play a vital role in supporting these expectations.
