At Canary Wharf Primary Glenworth, we see lunchtime as an important part of the school day. It is a time for children to enjoy nutritious food, build friendships, develop independence and learn valuable life skills within a safe and supportive environment.
We work hard to create a calm, positive and welcoming lunchtime experience where children feel happy, included and part of our school community. Lunchtime is not simply a break between lessons; it is an important opportunity for social development, wellbeing and personal growth.
Healthy, nutritious school meals
Our hot school meals are provided by the Tower Hamlets Catering Team, who offer a balanced and varied menu designed to support children’s health, wellbeing and learning.
Meals are carefully planned to provide:

- Vegetarian choices
- Culturally inclusive menus
- Balanced portions suitable for growing children
- All meat served on site is halal.
We encourage children to try new foods, make healthy choices and develop positive attitudes towards eating well.
Parents can view our current school lunch menu to see the range of meals available each day, including themed menu days, vegetarian options and daily salad and fruit choices.

Children eat together in a calm and sociable environment where they can enjoy spending time with their friends.
We place great importance on:
- Good table manners

- Independence
- Kindness and consideration
- Positive social interaction
Food safety and allergies
The safety and wellbeing of our pupils is always our highest priority.
We have robust procedures in place to support children with allergies, dietary requirements and medical needs, including close communication with families, staff training and careful monitoring during lunchtime.
To help keep all members of our community safe, we operates as a nut-free school. Products containing nuts should not be included in packed lunches or snacks.
Healthy lunchboxes
Families who provide packed lunches are encouraged to support our healthy eating approach by providing balanced and nutritious food choices.
We ask that packed lunches:
- Support healthy lifestyles
- Avoid sweets and fizzy drinks
- Include nutritious options where possible
- Remain nut-free
We believe that healthy eating supports children’s wellbeing, concentration and readiness to learn.
Universal infant free school meals and Pupil Premium
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to Universal Infant Free School Meals.
Some families may also be eligible for additional government funding through Pupil Premium. This funding helps schools provide additional support, resources and opportunities for eligible pupils. We encourage families to apply if they think they may qualify, even if their child already receives Universal Infant Free School Meals.
Further information about eligibility and how to apply can be obtained from the school office.
